VIDEO: Brazen thief steals $27,000 jewel from Northern California jewelry store

Police in Northern California are looking for a man who stole a loose jewel from a jewelry store. The incident, which occurred earlier this month, was caught on surveillance video.

The footage shows an employee showing a man a piece of jewelry from behind the counter. The man is then handed the piece of jewelry. With the jewel in his hand, the brazen thief suddenly turns and runs out of the store.

Officers say the man was at King's Jewelers in Walnut Creek when he asked to see a $27,000 jewel. He ran out of the store after he was handed the jewel, where he got in a car which sped off.

Police described the suspect as a white man in his 20s with black hair. They say a woman was driving the car.

Authorities hope that locals will recognize the thief from the surveillance video.
