Man fatally shot by Royal Oak officer after fleeing police

Man went to White Castle drive-thru

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A man was shot and killed by Royal Oak police after fleeing a traffic stop Tuesday evening.

Police tried to stop the man for a traffic violation about 6 p.m. The man stopped then fled the scene, police said.

They caught up with him in a White Castle drive-thru in the area of 13 Mile Road and Coolidge Highway.

"Fifteen minutes later, we found him in the drive-thru waiting to get food," Royal Oak Police Chief Corey O'Donohue said.

An officer approached the vehicle with their gun drawn and fired at the man, who drove off and crashed just east of the restaurant.
