Michigan drivers are paying an average of $2.52 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, an increase of $0.11 from last week’s average gas prices in Michigan, according to the American Automobile Association.

This time last year, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.43, nine cents less than this year.

“Reduced supply and strong demand were the driving forces behind the increased prices,” said Gary Bubar, AAA spokesperson. “As supplies continue to fluctuate, prices at the pump will change. Demand is forecast to increase as we near the holiday season and that could lead to increased prices.”

Michigan’s average price for regular unleaded gasoline this week is $0.11 less than the national average, according to AAA.

The most expensive average prices for regular unleaded gasoline in Michigan are in Ann Arbor ($2.60), Metro Detroit ($2.54) and Benton Harbor ($2.52). On the other hand, the cheapest are in Traverse City ($2.39), Jackson and Marquette ($2.31).
