Michigan music: Lizzo, I Prevail pick up multiple Grammy nominations

Lizzo leads with 8 nominations

DETROIT – Michigan performers Lizzo and I Prevail picked up numerous Grammy nominations.

Lizzo, who was born in and spent part of her childhood in Detroit, was the top-nominated performer.

She secured eight nominations, including three for her hit “Truth Hurts” -- Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year.

Her album, “Cuz I Love You” was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album.

“Exactly How I Feel,” a track featuring Gucci Mane, received the Best R&B Performance nomination and “Jerome" was nominated in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category.

Lizzo was also nominated as the Best New Artist.

Metro Detroit’s I Prevail received two nominations -- one for their new album, “Trauma,” and another for a track off the record.

“Trauma” was nominated as the Best Rock Album and “Bow Down” was nominated as the Best Metal Performance.

Another Michigan nominee includes the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, which picked up the nomination for Best Orchestral Performance.

The winners will be announced live at the 2020 Grammy Awards on Jan. 26. Check out the full list of nominees here.
