India Mackey killed at home on Shirley Avenue

WARREN, Mich. – Local 4 has learned Warren police are pursuing homicide charges in the shooting death of a 20-year-old woman.

India Mackey was shot and killed Tuesday night at a home in the 14000 block of Shirley Avenue, police said. The suspected shooter was arrested a short time later in Eastpointe, officials said.

Neighbors heard gunshots Tuesday night and called 911. When police arrived, they found the 20-year-old woman had been shot to death, according to authorities.

Shortly after the discovery, officers said they pulled over Mackey’s 18-year-old boyfriend for driving erratically on Gratiot Avenue north of Nine Mile Road in Eastpointe about a mile and a half away. He was taken into custody, police said.

Sources told Local 4 the man is expected to face a first-degree murder charge. He is being kept in custody while police investigate the case.

Charges could be requested as early as Thursday, sources said.

Mackey was loved by her family members and friends, who stretch from Pontiac to Sagniaw.

“You took her from me,” her father posted on Facebook. “She was a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, actor and more to all of us.”

Neighbor Barbara Fleuly said her son-in-law heard gunshots. Across the street, Derrick Tait arrived home to a major police scene.
