4 Metro Detroit pharmacies targeted in string of overnight break-ins

Detroit, Warren, Westland pharmacies hit

DETROIT – Four pharmacies in Metro Detroit were hit by thieves overnight Wednesday.

Pharmacies in Detroit and Warren were broken into, while there was an attempted break-in at a Westland pharmacy on North Wayne Road. Police departments in the cities are talking to each other to see if there are enough similarities to connect the crimes.

"We're working with other departments. It could be a serial burglar hitting pharmacies. We're not sure at this time," said Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.

Thieves used a crowbar to pry open doors Thursday morning at the Village Pharmacy on Chicago Road in Warren.

At a Rite Aid pharmacy near Vernor Highway and Springwells Street on Detroit's southwest side, thieves tried to bust through the drive-thru window, while a CVS pharmacy on Van Dyke and Outer Drive was targeted, police said.

At least one of the break-ins was caught on surveillance video, and police are working to get the video out to the public.
