78-year-old man charged with murdering Detroit neighbor in feud over loud music

Edward Jordan accused of fatally shooting 49-year-old neighbor

DETROIT – The family of a 78-year-old man was stunned Wednesday when the Detroit resident was charged with murdering his neighbor.

Edward Jordan is accused of first-degree murder and faces felony firearms charges for allegedly shooting his 49-year-old neighbor to death, records show.

What would make the Chrysler retiree allegedly open fire on a man much younger that him in the early morning hours of Nov. 9? In a call from jail, records show Jordan told his son about a bitter ongoing feud with the neighbor over loud music.

The battle might have been solved without violence, but Jordan had a doctor's appointment the week before the shooting regarding signs of dementia, officials said.

Jordan's son said his father had a decades-old handgun and he thought he was firing a warning shot at the neighbor's door. He said his father believes no bullets came out of the gun.

But real shots were fired, and the neighbor lost his life, according to authorities.
