Argument ends with shots fired at Heather Highlands Golf Course

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An argument between a golf course employee and a customer escalated Saturday when the worker pulled out a handgun from his waistband and started firing shots, deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies learned of the fight just after 4 p.m. and rushed to the Heather Highlands Golf Course in Springfield Township, according to an incident report released Sunday.

The situation started when the employee confronted the golfer over his removal of empty beer cars from the golf course property, and the issue of the golfers possibly bringing their own alcohol onto the course, which isn’t allowed, deputies said.

It’s not clear what exactly prompted the employee to pull out a gun and discharge a round “and possibly two more,” officials said.

Several golfers attacked the worker, trying to disarm him.

Heather Highlands is at 11454 E. Holly Road. A 911 call reported a large group of people fighting. The employee was taken to Genesys Regional Medical Center.

After he was cleared medically, the worker -- a 45-year-old Grand Blanc Township man -- was arrested and taken to the Oakland County Jail, pending criminal charges.

The victim is listed as a 60-year-old man from Waterford Township.
