Boy, 5, struck by vehicle in Hamtramck hit-and-run, police say

Police: Boy taken to hospital, in critical condition

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – A 5-year-old boy was taken to a hospital after being struck in a hit-and-run in Hamtramck, police said.

The Hamtramck Police Department received a 911 call at 4:29 p.m. Saturday about a child who had been struck by a car on Zinow Street.

Officers found a 5-year-old boy who had been struck by a vehicle which fled the scene, police said.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital of Michigan. Police said the boy was in emergency surgery and is in critical condition.

The suspect vehicle is described by police as an early 2000s silver Chevrolet Impala. Police said the Impala, which was last seen driving south on Fleming Street from Zinow Street, has what appears to be a "donut" spare tire on the passenger side rear and also has a spoiler on the trunk lid.
