Dr. Larry Nassar bound over for trial on criminal sexual assault charges

Former MSU, Olympics gymnastics doctor bound over

MASON, Mich. – A Michigan sports doctor accused of sexually assaulting young gymnasts has been bound over for trial on criminal sexual assault charges.

Judge Donald Allen Jr. had to decide whether there is enough evidence to send Larry Nassar to trial on the sexual assault charges. The last witness Friday was a Michigan State University police officer who interviewed him.

On the video, Nassar was asked about his treatment of a gymnast back in 2000. He said he couldn't remember her. He said he would only put a finger in a patient's anus during a rare complex treatment.

Nassar said he doesn't get sexual pleasure from treating gymnasts. He said if he had an erection as a gymnast claimed "that's rather embarrassing."

Nassar was bound over Friday as charged:

  • 12 counts of 1st degree criminal sexual conduct
  • 5 counts of 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct

There are six victims. Originally there were seven but one case was dismissed. Four of 12 1st degree CSC counts were for victims were under 13 years old. The other eight counts were for victims aged 13-15 years old.

Nassar is facing three more criminal cases, including one in federal court alleging he possessed child pornography. Separately, he's being sued by dozens of women and girls.

Nassar was a longtime doctor at Michigan State University and Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians.
