Eastern Michigan University welcomes 3rd largest freshman class in school's history

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan University is expecting to welcome its third largest entering freshman class in the school's history beginning Friday. 

The nearly 2,800 new freshmen are moving into the Ypsilanti campus residence halls. The university also expects about 1,000 new commuter students this fall. There will be a session for commuter students and their families in the Student Center Ballroom.

Here's what's on the schedule Friday:

  • Freshman Move-in lasts from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
  • 10-11 a.m. Session for Commuter Students
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. First Four Family Picnic
  • 2-3 p.m. Convocation Ceremony -- EMU Convocation Center
  • 3-3:45 p.m. Parent and Family Reception -- Rynearson Stadium
  • 6:30 p.m. EMU vs. Charlotte Football Game -- Rynearson Stadium

Overall, about 3,800 students will live on the EMU campus this year. Returning and transfer students will move in Saturday and over the Labor Day weekend.

Classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 6.
