Wayne County Sheriff’s Office helps Detroit police crackdown in high crime areas

S.C.O.U.T operation Thursday focused on neighborhoods in Detroit’s 8th Precinct

Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is increasing attention to crimes that cause concern and complaints from residents.

The initiative cracks down on “quality-of-life issues” like speeding/drag racing, abandoned cars, prostitution, drug trafficking, and loitering in front of businesses.

“(People) here they want vacant vehicles towed out from their streets, and they don’t want those things that will bring down a neighborhood,” said Sheriff Raphael Washington. “They want some action going that will sustain their neighborhood because maybe those heavy-duty crimes are not their issues.”

The Sheriff’s Community Organized Urban Team (S.C.O.U.T) initiative is a partnership with the Detroit Police Department.

“We’re stronger together, we’re better together, and when we come together to help each other, we’re able to best serve the community,” Washington said.

The S.C.O.U.T operation Thursday (July 13) focused on neighborhoods in Detroit’s 8th Precinct.
