Roseville man allegedly punches his 72-year-old roommate to death

Mark Newsome is charged with second-degree murder

Officials say a 54-year-old man from Roseville was charged for allegedly punching his 72-year-old roommate to death.

Allegedly, on Wednesday (Jan. 31), Mark Newsome, 54, got into a verbal altercation with Dale Mitchell, 72, that escalated into a physical altercation, with Newsome punching his roommate in the head several times, causing him to die from his injuries.

Newsome is being charged with second-degree murder (Life felony). He was charged in Roseville District Court, where he was denied bond.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 14) at 8:30 a.m., and a preliminary exam is scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 21) at 8:30 a.m.

“Our duty is to uphold the principles of the law, and seek accountability for the loss of a life, and ensuring that justice prevails for the victim and their grieving loved ones,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
