Beloved Macomb County bakery closing after nearly 50 years

Butter-Nut Bakery to close permanently in mid-April

CENTER LINE, Mich. – A small bakery in Center Line will be permanently closing up shop after nearly 50 years.

After Easter, the owners of the Butter-Nut Bakery on Van Dyke Avenue are going to close up shop for good.

The owners said deciding to close the bakery was not an easy decision. Desa Acovski said she has been working the family business with her husband since 1975. She said that while closing is a bit sad, it is time for them to move on.

“Things do happen in life, you do have to move on, you can’t just work until you die and be dragged off, right?” Acovski said. “We’re gonna relax, we’ve got five grandchildren to look after and hopefully, you know, help raise.”

Customers like Herb Wilson say they will miss the place.

“It’s gonna be terrible, the neighborhood, everybody comes in here, everybody loves the place it’s been a staple of the community for decades now you know,” Wilson said.

Acovski said the doors will close permanently in mid-April.
