According to the National Transportation Safety Board, a main component of the SUV’s steering wheel may have been improperly assembled on the recalled vehicles, which may cause the intermediate shaft and right front drive shaft not fully engage.

Owners are advised to manually engage the emergency parking brake prior to exiting the vehicle until the recall remedy is performed. Owners are being asked to take the SUV to a Kia dealer to have an updated electronic parking brake software installed, free of charge.

More information can be found through Kia’s customer service number at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC303.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
