Car crashes into Detroit apartment; woman narrowly escapes injury

DETROIT – A woman on Detroit’s east side is lucky to be alive after a car drove through her apartment.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at an apartment complex located near the intersection of Harper Avenue and Berkshire Street.

A woman living in the apartment said she normally sleeps on a couch where the car crashed, but she had gotten up just moments before.

“I heard a big boom, everything started shaking and then I heard a sizzling, like water spraying,” recalled Angelique Smith. “I literally jumped up, walked to my living room, saw the car in my living room and I started screaming.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
