A popular Detroit restaurant was forced to close on what is usually one of its busiest days of the year due to a water main break.

The water main break is located west of Rosa Parks Boulevard and has left Green Dot Stables without water.

After numerous calls to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department starting at about 6:50 a.m. Friday morning, restaurant owner Christine Driscoll finally received a response at around noon that the city was aware of the issue and working on it.

The department told her that the break was reported around midnight, but there were a lot of moving parts necessary to assess and repair the break.

Driscoll said she had to send her entire staff home and she’s thinking about how her employees are missing out on the money they were expecting to make ahead of Christmas.

“This is our biggest day of the year, with everybody out celebrating what is probably their last day before their big vacation,” said Driscoll. “Typically this day is like two and a half times a normal weekend revenue day.”

This isn’t the first time the restaurant has been without water, according to Driscoll, and while she’s not trying to dwell on the past, it just makes them anxious about the impact it has, especially during the holiday season.

Local 4 has reached out to the city’s water and sewerage department about this and is waiting for a response.
