DETROIT – The race for Detroit’s next mayor is heating up.
Former City Councilwoman Saunteel Jenkins announced her candidacy Tuesday (Jan. 14).
Jenkins was elected as City Council President in 2009 and is now the CEO of the Heat and Warmth Fund or Thaw.
Jenkins joins what’s shaping up to be a crowded race for mayor. City Council President Mary Sheffield made her formal announcement last month.
Several others are laying the groundwork for formal campaigns, including council member Fred Durhal the Third, businessman Joel Haashiim, and former Michigan House Speaker Joe Tate.
