Why residents in southern Michigan may see, hear fighter jets Wednesday morning

DETROIT – The 180th Fighter Wing in Ohio will be conducting an air defense exercise in the southern Michigan area Wednesday morning.

The Ohio Air National Guard said between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Jan. 22, 2025, people may hear or see fighter jets close to a Civil Air Patrol aircraft, which will be taking the role of a Track of Interest, for training purposes.

A Track of Interest is an aircraft that has been identified as a potential threat.

According to officials at the 180th Fighter Wing, the exercise flights could be relocated, delayed or canceled due to inclement weather.
