DETROIT – James Edward Murden, 32, of Detroit, has been arrested and charged in the I-94 shooting incident involving a mother and her two children.

The incident occurred on Dec. 26, 2024, at around 1:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-94 and Mt. Elliott Street as the mother was driving home from a Christmas party.

Officials said the woman’s vehicle had multiple bullet holes in it, and there were shell casings found on the freeway.

The woman was shot once and taken to a Metro Detroit hospital, where she was treated for her injury.

The two children were not injured and were picked up at the scene by family members.
