Man charged in deadly Valentine’s Day shooting on Detroit’s west side

DETROIT – A 31-year-old man is facing the possibility of life in jail after a fatal shooting turned into a barricaded situation on Detroit’s west side.

It happened Friday, Feb. 14, at a home near the intersection of Washburn and Santa Clara streets. Police said Desuan Travon Ross was in an argument with a woman inside her vehicle before exiting the car and firing multiple shots into the driver’s side window with a handgun, striking the woman. After the victim drove off and crashed into a house, Ross reportedly fired a rifle into the vehicle, killing her.

Ross was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm. He was denied bond and remanded back to jail.

His probable cause conference is scheduled for Feb. 24.
