87-year-old killed by teen on dirt bike while checking mail in Northern Michigan

PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY, Mich. – An 87-year-old man succumbed to his injuries days after being struck by a child on a dirt bike.

He was hit by the dirtbike on March 1, at about 7 p.m. in Presque Isle County. According to authorities, the 87-year-old man was crossing County Road 451 with a flashlight to check his mail. When he got to the mailbox on the shoulder of the road, he was reportedly hit by a child on a motorized dirtbike that was speeding down the road without a headlight.

The man was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. UpNorthLive reported he died days later, on March 5.

The driver of the dirt bike was not injured.
