Child on dirtbike critically injures 87-year-old man checking mail in Northern Michigan

PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY, Mich. – An 87-year-old man was critically injured after being struck by a child on a dirt bike.

It happened Saturday, March 1, at about 7 p.m. in Presque Isle County. According to authorities, the 87-year-old man was crossing County Road 451 with a flashlight to check his mail. When he got to the mailbox on the shoulder of the road, he was reportedly hit by a child on a motorized dirtbike that was speeding down the road without a headlight.

The man was airlifted to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the dirt bike was not injured.
