MEMPHIS, Mich. – School officials with Memphis Community Schools are commending a student who alerted them to another student’s “kill list.”

A letter was sent out to parents Tuesday, April 29, informing parents of the situation. According to the letter, officials received an anonymous tip regarding a journal entry written by a junior high student that had a list titled “Kill List Today.”

The tip was made through the district’s Yellowjacket Tip Line.

The list reportedly included 13 names, including both students and staff.

The parents of every student named in the list were informed before the district sent the letter out. Resources and support will be made available for students.

“This type of behavior is neither acceptable nor tolerable in our schools now or ever,” Superintendent Sara Dobbelaer wrote in the letter. “The District is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students, staff, and families.”

Dobbelaer said they’re “deeply grateful” to the student who spoke up and submitted the tip.
