A Michigan man who was having an affair with a former coworker tried to kill his wife with a shotgun in the middle of the night but had to make it look like a home invasion when his plan failed, police said.

GRATIOT TOWNSHIP, MI -- A 3-year-old girl was killed in a fire in St Clair County Wednesday night, according to police. Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, along with Fort Gratiot Fire Department, were dispatched shortly before midnight Wednesday, Dec. 23, to a residence on Abel Drive in Fort Gratiot Township for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, they found the residence fully engulfed in smoke and flames on the north side, according to a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office news release. Firefighters from Fort Gratiot Township arrived a short time later and were able to make entry into the residence. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit is on location the morning of Thursday, Dec. 23, working to determine the cause of the fire.

Pregnant woman ejected, seriously injured in two-vehicle crash
ST CLAIR TWP., MI -- Four people were injured in a St Clair County car crash Tuesday, including a baby and a pregnant woman. Deputies were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23 to Wadhams Road and Gratiot Road in St. Clair Township for a roll-over injury crash. The driver of the Pontiac, a 21-year-old woman from Port Huron who is three months pregnant, was ejected from the vehicle, along with her passengers, a 26-year-old man from Port Huron and a 1-year-old child, police said. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit. Kimball Township Fire and Rescue and the St. Clair County Road Commission assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene of the crash.

1 dead, 2 stabbed during alleged ‘drug deal gone wrong’ in Port Huron Township, police say
PORT HURON CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating what is believed to be a drug deal gone bad in Port Huron Charter Township early Wednesday morning. One person is dead and two others suffered stab wounds during the incident, officials said. The Port Huron Charter Township man provided information regarding the assault to officers and was then transported to the hospital. Port Huron police identified and stopped a vehicle in connection with the incident at about 4:30 a.m., officials said. A 21-year-old Washington Township man was also in the car and suffered from lacerations.
