Police search for woman involved in stabbing of acquaintance during dispute inside Renaissance Center

Stabbing occurred near food court and the bathroom area

DETROIT – Police are searching for a woman who was involved in an argument with an acquaintance that led to a stabbing inside Detroit’s Renaissance Center.

Police said the stabbing occurred on Wednesday (April 30) at 6:08 p.m. within the food court or bathroom area.

Officials said the victim followed the offender to the bathroom, where she used the facility, and came out, at which point the victim struck the offender at least once with a closed fist.

“The offender then pulled some type of a sharp object and cut the victim underneath the left armpit, once with a bystander believed to be a boyfriend of the victim, attempting to separate the two women.

And then 22 minutes later, or within 22 minutes, the offender exited towards the Michigan Cass area, changed clothing, and then exited.”

Duda said the two women appeared to have known each other and that the stabbing was a specific, targeted incident.

He said the motive for the argument was unknown as of Wednesday night, but leveraging technology and being able to use their partner’s video assets, they not only had still images of the offender, but they also had all the specifics needed for any further investigation to be able to identify and capture the woman involved in the incident.

Police said the offender exited the area after the stabbing. They said they did not know if the woman entered onto a bus and left or simply continued on as they were nowhere near the location of the stabbing in the 400 block of Renaissance.

Police said there’s an area Inside Tower 400 or 400 Renaissance where you can purchase food, and that seemed to be where the argument occurred, leading to the altercation outside the bathroom.

Officials said the woman who was cut under the armpit was listed in temporary serious condition at a Metro Detroit hospital.
