Wrong-way driver pleads no contest to murder charges in crash that killed Metro Detroit parents of 6

A Romulus man pleaded no contest to multiple charges, including murder, after crashing into a couple head-on on the Lodge Freeway, killing them.

Angel Melendez-Ortiz, 35, drove away from police in a reported stolen pickup truck in the wrong direction on the Lodge Freeway at around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2024, crashing into Jen and Ryan Ambrosio.

How Michigan residents can check for unclaimed money on revamped website

The Michigan Department of Treasury has revamped its website to make it easier for residents to check if they have unclaimed property.

Upgrades to the Michigan Unclaimed Property website include “an updated design, highlighted by refreshed colors, better usability and easier-to-follow directions for claiming property,” according to a release.

Smiling woman says ‘Have a nice day’ after robbing shelters for homeless vets across Metro Detroit

Roseville police are seeking the public’s help identifying a suspect who stole personal items and cash from Vets Returning Home, a nonprofit serving homeless veterans in Metro Detroit.

Security cameras captured footage of the woman entering the organization’s thrift store near 12 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue one week ago.

Here’s what 20 Michigan inmates said in lawsuit against recorded strip searches

20 women inmates at the prison in Washtenaw County provided their experience with corrections officers using body cameras while conducting strip searches in a lawsuit.

A lawsuit was filed alleging that the Michigan Department of Corrections instructed guards to use body cameras during routine strip searches at the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Washtenaw County.

Weather: Showers continue Wednesday; tracking strong to severe storm potential in Metro Detroit for Thursday

After some scattered rain showers throughout the day on Tuesday, we will keep the active weather into the forecast, looking ahead into the end of the week.

Expect a chance of rain showers to continue as we work throughout the middle of the week on Wednesday. And isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out late this afternoon and into the evening hours tonight. High temperatures will head into the lower 70s by Wednesday afternoon.
