WAYNE, Mich. – Three children were found unharmed after a car theft in Wayne, leading to the arrest of 25-year-old Bryant Lamont Brown II.
The incident occurred on Sunday (May 18) at 11 p.m. when Wayne police were notified via Central Dispatch of the stolen vehicle with a 3-year-old and 18-month-old twins inside.
Police said the mother stopped at a store to pick up groceries when the incident occurred.
Officials said her blue Chevy Avalanche was last seen traveling east on Michigan Avenue.
Police said they broadcast the description of the vehicle that was shared with neighboring agencies.
Officials said the vehicle was spotted shortly after being parked in the 27000 block of Cherry Hill in Dearborn Heights by an undercover Dearborn police detective, who was occupied with the suspect getting in and out of it.
Police said that within one minute of the Chevy being spotted, a caller could hear children crying in the parking lot of a business near Middlebelt and Grandview in Inkster, nearly two miles away.
Officers arrived and discovered the 3-year-old and 18-month-old twins unharmed and still in their car seats.
Police said the children were checked by EMS on the scene and returned to their mother.
Brown II was arrested on the scene, and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged him with one count of unlawful driving away a motor vehicle, a five-year felony.
He was arraigned on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in the 29th District Court and was given a probable cause conference date of May 27 at 1:15 p.m. at the 29th District Court.
Brown was given a $100,000 cash or surety bond and turned over to the Wayne County Jail.
