Bomb squad safely neutralizes threat after alert from police dog

SAGINAW, Mich. – Several live pipe bombs found in a Saginaw scrap yard were deactivated and destroyed Monday.

According to authorities, police were alerted to “suspicious pipes” found in a truck scheduled for scrapping at Mike’s Wrecker Service. The truck was reportedly found abandoned in March on Saginaw’s west side.

The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was contacted after Saginaw Police K-9 Loki confirmed that the pipes were explosives. Michigan State Police confirmed that the devices were “live pipe bombs” and successfully deactivated and destroyed them.

The investigation is ongoing, being handled by the Saginaw Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
