DETROIT – The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) has implemented new security measures at the two major Detroit transit centers.
“Safety is paramount on all DDOT buses and at all DDOT locations,” said Corie Holmes, the chief safety officer for DDOT. “These new initiatives ensure that riders are protected, and they are safe at transit centers as well as on our coaches.”
DDOT said they have increased the presence of Detroit officers and have added metal detectors at entry points, effective May 22, 2025.
The new safety measures were added to the following two transit centers:
- Rosa Parks Transit Center (Michigan Ave. & Cass Ave., Downtown Detroit)
- Jason Hargrove Transit Center (Woodward Ave. & Eight Mile Road)
“Increased DPD presence at the transit centers will ensure that Detroiters enjoy a safe riding experience within these transfer hubs and throughout the system,” according to the release.
DDOT also said the metal detectors will ensure that no prohibited items are brought into the buildings.
Any rider who uses a medical device that may be affected by the new metal detectors is encouraged to contact on-site safety personnel for an alternative screening method.
