DEARBORN, Mich. – What’s that famous quote from Spider-Man again? Oh, right — “With great power comes great responsibility.” Well, in Dearborn, that quote just got a local remix: “With great power comes great timing.”
Because just in the nick of time, a hometown hero known affectionately as Power Man came to the rescue — and the whole moment is now going viral.
A hero in the Kroger parking lot
It was around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, when Dearborn police reported that a single-vehicle crash rattled visitors outside the Kroger and ABC Warehouse parking lot on Michigan Avenue, near Greenfield Road in east Dearborn.
An elderly woman and her driver in a red Ford Fusion had rolled over after hitting a yellow parking pole.
As bystanders scrambled to understand what had just happened, one man not only stepped in but literally used his strength for good.
Power Man — real name Mahmoud Sobh — went on top of the overturned car and held the door open with one arm, helping free the 79-year-old woman stuck inside the bottom of the vehicle with the other arm.
“It’s like I didn’t even need to think,” said Power Man, 52, who told Local 4 he got the nickname as a child. “It’s something inside me — when I see stuff like that, I have to help. I have to do it.”
The elderly woman and the driver both emerged unscathed, thanks in part to Sobh’s quick thinking and, well, power.
“I grew up in this community. I love my community. I love my people. I love my family,” Sobh said, with his wife, who captured the footage. “(The elderly woman) hugged me and thanked me. Over here, we’re all human beings. We’re all under one nation, which is God. So we have to look out for each other, no matter white, Black, Arabic, Mexican — we have to look out for each other.”
So, who is Power Man?
Locals know Mahmoud as a proud Dearborn resident who teams up with his nephew, Ali Sobh, to post positive, community-driven content on TikTok.
Whether he’s flexing his strength or flexing his heart, Mahmoud’s videos are all about having fun and uplifting the people around him.
His love for Dearborn — and the people in it — comes first. He also has four children and comes from a large family.
“Power Man is a character. He brings positivity and smiles to people’s faces,” said Ali. “With this world, we’re trying to put value out there — even with the little things. If you can put a smile on someone’s face, then why not?”
Now, thanks to viral videos shared by Dearborn news outlets and residents alike, the rest of the internet is learning what the city already knows: Power Man is as genuine as they come.
“From dieting to good morals, being there when people need help, being a family man — you can have a lot of power,” Ali said. “But if you’re not using it to help the world, then what’s the point?”
Police: Be cautious, but thanks, Power Man!
Dearborn police are praising Mahmoud’s heroic actions, but also want to remind the public to exercise caution in emergency situations.
As much as it’s inspiring to jump in and help, experts advise that it’s always safest to wait for trained emergency personnel when possible, to prevent injuries to yourself or others.
Still, it’s clear that Power Man’s actions came from a place of the heart — and in this case, perfect timing made all the difference.
And to quote another superhero. “It’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you.”
