17-year-old Bedford Public Schools graduate, 33-year-old man found dead in Monroe County home

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – Gwendolyn Fay Smith, 17, a 2025 Bedford Public Schools graduate, and Ryne Jacob Leist, 33, of Temperance, were found dead inside a home.

The incident occurred Saturday (June 14) at a residence in the 1600 block of West Sterns Road.

The circumstances leading to their deaths remain under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.

The Sheriff’s Office said they’re awaiting autopsy results from the Lucas County Coroner’s office as to the cause of death.

Sheriff’s detectives said they are working diligently to conduct a thorough investigation into this tragic incident.

Officials said they are confident there is no threat to the community.
