Concerns mounting as SE Michigan remains under flood watch Tuesday night
A flood watch has been issued for 11 southeastern Michigan counties from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Those counties include Genesee, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne.

Michigan man pleads guilty to federal hate crime for attacking Black teen
Lee James Mouat Jr., 44, of Newport, Michigan was charged on June 8, 2020 for assaulting an 18-year-old Black man in Monroe County. MONROE, Mich. – A Michigan man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal hate crime for attacking a Black teenager. Lee Mouat, 43, of Newport willfully caused bodily injury to the victim because of the teen’s race, the Department of Justice says. According to the plea agreement, Mouat confronted a group of Black teenagers, including the victim, at a state park in Monroe. Mouat repeatedly used racial slurs and said that Black people had no right to use the public beach where the incident occurred.

35-year-old man killed in Monroe County single vehicle crash while speeding
Police say the victim, Lambertville resident Nathan James Mahrt, was driving a silver 2020 Nissan 370Z southbound on Douglas Road north of Summerfield Road when the crash happened. MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A 35-year-old man was killed in a single vehicle crash that happened on Summerfield east of Douglas in Bedford Township at around 3:46 a.m. Saturday. Police say the victim, Lambertville resident Nathan James Mahrt, was driving a silver 2020 Nissan 370Z southbound on Douglas north of Summerfield. While he was making a turn in the area the Nissan went off the roadway to the south. Police say speeding was a contributing factor in the crash.

Dozens of shots fired in Monroe neighborhood targeting car, 2 homes
MONROE, Mich. – A vehicle parked on the driveway of a home in the 500 block of Conant Street in Monroe was shot at 15 times Friday around 10 p.m. while two separate homes in the area were also struck with gunfire, police say. When police arrived to the area after complaints about gunfire were made they found over 25 spent shell casings from different guns. As of Saturday there were no reports of injured victims, police say. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Monroe Police Department Detective Bureau.

Man arrested for online domestic terror threat targeting Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A domestic terror threat posted on social media targeting the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is being investigated. On Saturday, Jan. 2 the MCSO was notified about the social media post. In the online post a man threatened to harm the law enforcement agency and blow up its building if the MCSO did not send someone to arrest him by Jan. 13. Later the man threatened to kill anyone who attempted to arrest him for any reason and noted that his post should be considered a terrorist threat. The man was identified as a 37-year-old from Gaylord with ties to the Monroe County area.

Heat advisory issued for Metro Detroit
DETROIT The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties that will be in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday. Outside of Metro Detroit the same heat advisory is in effect for Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties. Any peek of sunshine will result in temperatures near 95F. Vehicle flees scene after hitting, killing two pedestrians in Augusta Township
AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. On Friday, a driver struck and killed two pedestrians and then fled the scene, according to Michigan State Police. The crash happened Friday after 4 p.m. in the area of Milan Oakville and Gooding roads on the border of Washtenaw and Monroe counties. An investigation by police revealed a vehicle struck two pedestrians then fled the scene. The area will be shut down temporarily while police investigate the scene.
