DETROIT – A child and a patient who was en route to Sinai-Grace are among five people injured in a crash with an EMS rig on Detroit’s west side.
Police said the crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Friday (June 20) on Greenfield and West McNichols roads.
Officials said traffic had stopped for EMS to turn onto McNichols Road from Greenfield Road when a civilian vehicle passed the stopped cars and hit the rig.
Police stated that EMS was traveling with its lights and sirens on when the crash occurred.
Officials said two EMS employees received non-critical injuries, while two people from the civilian vehicle, which was an adult and a child, did not appear to have any life-threatening injuries.
The Detroit Fire Department has been under scrutiny following a series of incidents, including another fire truck crash and allegations of payroll fraud within the department.
DFD insiders have raised concerns about those issues, which they believe could compromise public safety.
Tuesday (June 17) morning began with another fire truck crash and ended with a tip regarding potential payroll fraud.
The most concerning news was the fire truck crash from last week that involved injuries to both a firefighter and a civilian.
Local 4 has confirmed that the firefighter driving the truck failed the alcohol test.
While his blood alcohol level was below the legal limit, the Detroit Fire Department has a zero-tolerance policy.
Any alcohol in the system results in discharge.
