Thunder Over Michigan Air Show marks 27th year with sold-out crowd

2025 Thunder Over Michigan Air Show runs June 20-22

WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – The roar of military aircraft returns to Willow Run Airport as the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show marks its 27th year with a sold-out crowd.

The premier aviation event features the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Air Force Raptor, and U.S. Marine Corps C-130 “Fat Albert” demonstrating America’s military aviation capabilities.

Aerial excellence on display

The Blue Angels command center stage with their signature F/A-18 Super Hornets, showcasing precision maneuvers that have made them the U.S. Navy’s premier flight demonstration team.

Joining them, the U.S. Air Force Raptor demonstrates cutting-edge fighter capabilities, while the massive C-130 “Fat Albert” displays the remarkable agility of military transport aircraft.

Interactive aviation experience

Beyond the aerial demonstrations, the air show offers attendees unique opportunities to experience aviation history through the Michigan Flight Museum’s collection.

Visitors can explore both modern military aircraft and classic planes while meeting the pilots and crew members who operate these remarkable machines.

Special recognition program

As part of the event’s community engagement, the Blue Angels selected two local leaders for their Key Influencer program. Detroit Red Wings right winger Alex DeBrincat and Pioneer High School swim coach Stefanie Kerska each earned flights aboard an F/A-18 Super Hornet in recognition of their community impact.

DeBrincat, who returned to his hometown of Farmington Hills in 2023, told Local 4 while he’s not fond of heights, his reservations dwindled as the flight continued.

“[It’s] like nothing you’ve seen before. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I’m happy I got to come here and do it,” he said.
