DETROIT – Detroit city officials continue to make communities safer, this time launching an online “dashboard” allowing the public to explore traffic safety conditions in the city that ranks high nationally in traffic fatalities.

The project is called SMART MODES, and its online page allows users to click on the dashboard link, taking them to a site full of maps and graphs showing real-time traffic data citywide with historical statistics of accidents as well as traffic violations, such as running red lights at intersections, speeding and jaywalking. The dashboard also lets people examine trends in specific neighborhoods.
