15-year-old killed, 13-year-old wounded in shooting inside home on Detroit’s west side

Victims are siblings, police say

DETROIT – A 15-year-old was fatally shot and their 13-year-old sister was wounded Sunday evening at a Detroit home, as police search for a suspect they believe knew the victims.

The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. on June 29 in a home near Schoolcraft Road and Mark Twain Street on Detroit’s west side. Other children and adults were inside the home at the time of the incident.

Detroit Police said the 13-year-old girl sustained a graze wound. Investigators have not yet determined a clear motive for the shooting but believe the perpetrator likely had prior connections to the victims.

Captain Marcus Thirlkill emphasized the department’s commitment to preventing similar tragedies through conflict resolution.

“If you need the police, if you need mental health assistance, whatever you need, the Detroit Police Department is able to assist in conflict resolution, anything that we can do to offer support in any circumstances,” Thirlkill said. “Please reach out to your local police station, and we’ll be available to assist.”
