LIVONIA, Mich. – A 3-year-old was killed, and his twin sister and mother are badly injured after being hit by a vehicle in Livonia late Sunday night.
Police confirmed Monday, June 30, that the suspected driver -- only identified as a 47-year-old woman from Mount Morris -- has been taken into custody.
According to police, a 28-year-old mother from Detroit was walking her 3-year-old twin son and daughter across Merriman Road at Lyndon at around 10:45 p.m. on June 29 when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver then left the scene.
Witnesses moved the injured children from the roadway before responding officers transported the children to a nearby hospital. The mother was taken separately by the Livonia Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment.
The 3-year-old boy died from his injuries at the hospital. The mother and the 3-year-old girl are in critical condition.
Police said the vehicle believed to be involved in the crash was found, and the investigation is ongoing.
