Police arrest man after pursuit of stolen vehicle tied to Detroit shooting

Police said man was charged with fleeing/eluding, reckless driving, and failure to stop after a collision

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – Police have arrested a man who led them on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle that was tied to a shooting in Detroit.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 1) when Hamtramck police said they initiated the pursuit of a stolen Chevrolet HHR, which was the suspect vehicle in the Detroit shooting.

Hamtramck police officers pursued the suspect and arrested 36-year-old James Edward Kennedy Jr. of Detroit.

Police said Kennedy was arraigned on July 3, 2025, in the 31st District Court on charges of fleeing/eluding, reckless driving, and failure to stop after a collision.

Officials said Kennedy was also charged as a Habitual fourth offender, which carries a penalty of up to life incarceration if found guilty.
