Discover Pewabic Pottery’s unique tiles across Detroit and beyond

A journey through Detroit’s unique ceramic heritage

DETROIT – Pewabic Pottery, located on Detroit’s east side, has been creating beautiful ceramics since 1903.

More than just a pottery studio, the nonprofit is one of the oldest continually operating potteries in the United States. The studio was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1991.

Known for its unique iridescent glazes and intricate tile designs, Pewabic’s work can be seen throughout Detroit. Notable locations featuring Pewabic works include Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Rice University in Houston, Herald Square in New York City and more.

Back home, Pewabic tiles can be found at Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, multiple People Mover and QLine stations and dozens of locations across Southeast Michigan.
