DETROIT – Later this month, 10,000 scoops of ice cream will be given away in Downtown Detroit to raise money for a local charity.

Denali Brands, which owns the Moose Tracks ice cream flavor brand, is teaming up with Country Fresh and Meijer to give out free ice cream as part of a fundraiser that will benefit the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit.

Since 2010, the event, called the 10,000 Scoop Challenge, has been held in cities across the U.S. and has raised more than $500,000 for charities.

When will the ice cream giveaway happen in Detroit?

The 10,000 Scoop Challenge will be at Cadillac Square (near Campus Martius) in Detroit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

What should I expect?

During the event, 10,000 scoops of Moose Tracks ice cream will be served.

This ice cream flavor features Moose Tracks fudge and peanut butter cups in vanilla ice cream.

How does this event benefit a local charity?

For every scoop that is served during the event, $1 will be donated to the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit to support community programs.

The goal is to serve 10,000 scoops and therefore raise $10,000 for the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit, according to a release from Denali Brands.
