WAYNE, Mich. – Richard Pryor, credited with helping stop a mass shooting last month at Crosspointe Community Church in Wayne, received a brand-new Ford F-150.
Pryor’s original truck was totaled after he spotted the shooter outside the church and hit him with his vehicle, giving armed security time to respond.
For weeks, Pryor had been without a truck. But now, thanks to Demmer Ford in Wayne, he has the keys to a new F-150.
“Definitely loving the Ford F-150s for sure,” Pryor said. “I definitely appreciate everything.”
Matt Demmer of Demmer Ford said the dealership wanted to support Pryor as a member of the community.
“Us, as a member of the community, we thought what can we do to help and make sure that Richard had something to drive immediately?” Demmer said. “And then thought, how do we do more?”
The keys were handed over on Thursday, July 10.
Pryor, a deacon at Crosspointe Community Church, was running late a few Sundays ago when he noticed a gunman walking toward the church door. He called 911 but realized time was running out.
Security guards responded and killed the gunman.
“I think that’s where the Lord comes involved because it was not my actions in that sense,” Pryror said. “I was not really thinking in that process.”
His truck was totaled by the gunfire.
Demmer said the gift is about giving back to Pryor and his family and providing peace of mind. A small thank you to a humble hero.
He got to pick out the truck himself, including the color. When asked if he has any road trips planned, Pryor laughed and said it was time for him to get back to work. He’s juggling three jobs on top of being a deacon.
