Residents living downriver have been enjoying the location’s first HopCat restaurant since June 30. Now, this weekend, the gastropub will celebrate its public grand opening with a “housewarming event.”
To mark the occasion, city and county officials will attend a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 11 at 1 p.m. Then the public is invited to the grand opening celebration on Saturday, July 12 at 10 a.m. The first 200 people will receive free Cosmik Fries for a year. There will also be giveaways and swag available while supplies last.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to open our doors here in Southgate,” said Managing Partner of HopCat, Kara Snyder in a press release. “We’re excited to bring the HopCat experience to a new community that has already been so welcoming.”
Southgate’s HopCat, the company says, will have a new look featuring an open floor plan and layout. The new 6,700 sq. ft. restaurant will accommodate up to 260 guests and feature a brand-new open floor plan, 40 rotating craft beers, a full-service bar, TVs for game day viewing, and an expanded outdoor patio featuring a pergola and festoon lighting. This will be the 12th location in Michigan.
“The City of Southgate is known for our wide array of dining options,” Mayor of City of Southgate, Joseph Kuspa said in a press release. “With HopCat’s unique menu, friendly staff and vibrant décor, they will most certainly become a favorite venue for our residents and those visiting throughout the Downriver area. We appreciate HopCat’s decision to locate here and are excited to welcome this new business to Southgate.”
The restaurant is located at 15231 Trenton Rd.
