Jerry Spaulding, 85, was last seen on July 5, leaving his Oceola Township home on Argentine Road, just north of M-59.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff, a body was found on July 13 in a swampy area near Brophy Road and Botsford Road at around 9:45 p.m.

Deputies responded to the area after a farmer went to chase a loose calf into the swampy area and found the body. Deputies said the deceased man appeared to be stuck in a knee-high mud hole near Neff Lake.

The sheriff’s office believes this was Spaulding.

There were no visible signs of a struggle or confrontation, according to authorities. The body was taken to University of Michigan Sparrow for a medical examination.

The investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff’s office is still working on a positive identification and cause of death.
