Flash flood warning in effect for Macomb, Oakland counties

Flash flood warning issued due to storms

A flash flood warning has been issued for two Southeast Michigan counties on Wednesday afternoon as storms move through the region.

The warning is in effect for parts of Macomb and Oakland counties until 5:15 p.m. on July 16.

According to the National Weather Service, the flash flood warning was issued for northwestern areas of Macomb County and northeastern areas of Oakland County due to heavy rainfall across the areas.

Between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen, and additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in these areas, according to the NWS.

Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and low-lying areas is possible.

Some of the specific locations expected to experience flash flooding include the following, according to the NWS: Romeo, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Lake Orion, Washington, Leonard, Stoney Creek Metro Park and Lakeville.

All of Southeast Michigan is under a marginal (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe storms today with highs in the upper 80s. Additional storms are also possible late Wednesday night north of I-69.
