DEARBORN, Mich. – Dearborn police are investigating after a string of vehicle break-ins and attempted break-ins targeting a neighborhood earlier this week.
The thefts occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Monday (July 14) in the area of Horger Street.
Billy Zeineddine reached out to Local 4 after the thieves broke into his father’s work van.
The family’s security camera caught the entire incident, showing at least two suspects trying to break into several other cars on their street.
The suspects are seen driving a white Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The video shows one of the suspects breaking into the back door of the van and unloading his father’s work tools.
The thieves then break into his father’s other vehicle, which is parked in the driveway.
“Imagine it was your own parents getting robbed, imagine it was yourself getting robbed,” Zeineddine said. “How would you feel?”
Zeineddine estimates the stolen tools were worth around $10,000 to $12,000.
His father runs a private business installing windows, and the burglary has put him out of business for the time being.
“My dad goes to work, he’s a hard-working man, a middle-class man that cares for eight of his kids,” Zeineddine said. “It’s very hard that he has to deal with something like this. Stuff like this shouldn’t be going on.”
Zeineddine says his father’s garage and van have both been broken into before.
In one instance, he says a suspect was caught and some of the tools were even returned, so the family had hoped the thefts would stop before Monday’s burglary.
Police are now asking for any information that can help identify the vehicle the suspects are seen driving.
