OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Residents in Oakland County are experiencing flooding due to heavy rain near the intersection of Orion and Collins roads.
“They wait til it drains cause it’s nothing more that you can do,” said nearby resident, Bill Jandeska.

While this may look like a lake, it’s a parking lot. However, Jandeska says it’s nothing new due to the layout of the area.
“All the hills over here drain down to this one spot. So it happens even in the wintertime when the snow melts,” Jandeska said.
But it was a first for Yvonne Steffens, who was absolutely taken aback by what she had seen in Oakland Township.
“I’ve been here for five years and I’ve never seen this before, and we’ve had a lot of rain in the past,” said Steffens.
Although roads were closed, life didn’t stop for the people nearby. Some have to resort to walking in the water, like Anakin Rhyndress and his family, who come from daycare.
Rhyndress saw the whole storm passing through.
“It was crazy cause around like 11 a.m., it just overflowed like crazy and everything. I saw it. But I was actually out there. We had to go back in recess. It’s honestly just bonkers,” said Rhyndress.
Crews spent most of the day expediting the draining process. Wading in the water themselves to help drain the water faster.
It’s a move that has residents glad that first responders are being proactive in ensuring everyone’s safety.
“The police are out here all the time, diverting,” Jandeska said.
“They blocked this immediately. They haven’t allowed any traffic in the last three or four hours. So, they respond immediately,” Steffens said.
The water should be gone within the next few hours.
