The attack occurred on Saturday (July 19) at the Anthony Wayne Drive apartments.

Police say the victim let the suspect use her bathroom before the man claimed that he had a knife and threatened to sexually assault her before choking and beating her.

The victim managed to convince the attacker to leave, and he was last seen walking toward West Warren.

Wayne State University Police confirmed in an email to Local 4 that the man was arrested on July 21, and he has no ties to the university.

“The university will continue to educate our students, faculty, and staff on the many crime prevention resources we offer, as well as best practices for maintaining personal and campus safety.”
