Security guards told police that five minutes earlier, someone used a slingshot to damage the glass revolving door to the building.
Nobody was injured, police said.
Ramzu Yunus, 49, of Highland Park, and Angela Tajuan Williams, 57, of Waldorf, Maryland, were identified as the duo responsible, according to authorities.
Later in the day Saturday, two Detroit police officers saw Yunus and Williams in the area of Madison and Witherell streets. They were pulled over and taken into custody.
Officers said Yunus was wearing an empty holster on his hip, and when they searched the car, they said they found a handgun, ammunition, and a slingshot with metal pellets.
Yunus is charged with malicious destruction of a building between $1,000 and $20,000, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon, and two felony firearm violations.
Williams is charged with malicious destruction of a building between $1,000 and $20,000.
They were arraigned Tuesday morning at 36th District Court. Yunus is being held on a $50,000 personal bond, and Williams is being held on a $25,000 bond. They both have to wear a GPS tether, if released.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 29, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Aug. 5.
Police said there are warrant requests that might connect the pair to two other Detroit buildings that were vandalized.
