A preliminary investigation revealed that the 20-year-old Dearborn man came up behind another vehicle in the center lane at a high speed and “hit the left rear” of the other driver’s car, according to Michigan State Police.
The 20-year-old then lost control of the vehicle, went up the right embankment, hit a tree, rolled over and caught on fire on the service drive.
The Detroit Fire Department extricated the man from the car. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
There were no other injuries. In addition, besides these two, no other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to police.
“One of the hardest responsibilities we have is to notify family members that their loved one died in a preventable crash,” said Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw. “We continue to see these preventable crashes due to drivers driving way too fast. Please slow down!”
